Wow, it’s been a year since I started making monthly debt repayment to AKPK! You know, I have also been able to save extra money in my personal savings account as emergency fund due to the debt management plan.

A debt management program is one of the many debt relief options that a credit counselor might suggest when you’re having issues with credit card debt.

It is also a good option if you don’t want to apply for a debt consolidation loan or declare bankruptcy.

Okay, let’s see some of the benefits of enrolling in a debt management program.

1. Reduced Interest Rates. Once enrolled in a DMP, your credit counselor will negotiate with your creditors to reduce your interest rates.

Interest rates will vary depending on your situation and your creditors, most rates are between 2% to 9% and under certain circumstances, some creditors may completely eliminate their interest rate to 0% interest.

2. One Single Payment. Instead of making multiple credit card payments on various due dates, a debt management plan enables you to make ONE payment to One agency on ONE due date.

I will never forget those old days when I had to run 6 banks to bank in 15 credit card payments!

Now I only need to make one payment to the credit counseling and debt management agency’s collection account by the end of every month. The single monthly payment will then be distributed by the agency to the creditors.

3. Waived Late Payment Fees. If you have late payment fees for delayed credit card payments, the credit counseling agency will help you negotiate with your creditors to waive them.

4. Creation of a Budget. The program you choose usually will help you to organize your personal finances with the creation of a budget. In this way your credit counselor can make sure that you are able to make your monthly debt repayment on time.

5. Peace of Mind. With the help of a debt management plan, you are able to start organizing your money and seeing how the amount of debt reduces and your personal savings increases.

Of course, there are disadvantages of enrolling in a debt management plan too. Before you decide if a debt management program is right for you, check the other debt relief alternatives and balance the advantages and disadvantages.

Am I worried about my credit card debt now? No, I am not. But I used to be very worried and stressed out about it before I enrolled in a free debt management program called AKPK debt management programme (DMP).

What about you? Are you worried about your credit card debt?

You should be if your credit card debt has spiraled out of control; you pay more than 15% of your monthly income to your credit card bills or/and borrow cash from one credit card to pay another.

You are not the only one who is dealing with credit card debt nowadays. In fact, almost 40% of credit card holders are in the same predicament!

So what should you do to avoid the need of getting help from debt relief options such as debt consolidation, debt management program, or debt settlement and worst of all filing for bankruptcy?

Start doing credit card debt management to help yourself get out of debt as fast as possible!

Most financial experts will advise you to stop using your credit cards. Quit using credit cards is to prevent you from adding new debt to your existing outstanding balance.

If you have more than one credit card, pay the minimum payment on them all. Then, pay the most to the credit card with the highest APR. Once the card with the highest APR is paid off, keep paying the minimum payment to the rest of your cards and pay the most to the next highest APR. Do so until all the credit cards are paid off.

Another way to help you is try balance transfer deals that offer 0% interest free period for 6, 9 or 12 months to save some money.

Credit cards are convenient, but you don’t have to use them all the time and put everything from groceries to petrol to night’s-out on them. Instead of using credit cards, cultivate the habit of using cash to help yourself curb your spending habits and get into more credit card debt.

If you are really concerned about your credit card debt, start doing debt reduction before you end up resorting to debt consolidation, debt management plan, debt settlement or bankruptcy.

Often times, the term “credit counseling” is used in the same sentence as debt settlement, but actually, it’s a completely different process.

With credit counseling, you will actually work with a credit counselor to pay off your debt in smaller, monthly payments that you can afford.

So, do you really need credit counseling to get you out of debt? You need it if you have been receiving harassing phone calls from bill collectors or if you are unable to make another month’s high interest credit card payments.

Before you attend any credit counseling briefing, it’s important that you choose a good credit counseling agency so that you are not scammed.

Look for a reliable credit counseling agency that is a member of the Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies (AICCCA) or the National Foundation of Credit Counseling (NFCC).

Once you have identified the right credit counseling agency, you’ll have to meet with a certified credit counselor, and provide him with all of the details of your debt.

After a thorough review of your debt, credit history, and a detailed analysis of each of your creditor accounts, your credit counselor will let you know if there is a need for you to enroll in a debt management program.

Once it is determined that signing up with a debt management plan is right for you, your debt management program counselor will negotiate with all of your creditors to reduce interest rates, eliminate late payment fees and lower payments before creating an affordable debt repayment plan that you can live with.

It’s true that working with a credit counseling service can do some damage to your credit report. But if you are at the stage where your last resort is filing for bankruptcy, you would definitely consider a debt management plan in order to avoid bankruptcy or a report full of charge-offs.

When it comes to debt help options to pay off unmanageable credit card debts, there are three very favorable options. They are debt consolidation, debt management and debt settlement.

Before you decide to sign up with any of the debt relief options, it’s important to have a thorough understanding of debt consolidation, debt management program or debt settlement plan so you can choose the option that best suits your needs to help you settle your debts.

Debt Consolidation. Debt consolidation comes in two forms; secured and unsecured.

Secured debt consolidation is the action of combining several loans or liabilities into one loan; it takes all of your high interest credit card debts and turns them into one low interest loan.

Often you have to be a home owner to qualify for a secured debt consolidation loan called home equity loan.

With a much lower interest rate than your credit card interest rates, secured debt consolidation enables you to pay on the principle and that thus helps you to eventually get yourself out of debt.

But a word of caution, though. A home equity loan is a secured loan; the bank can take away your house if you fail to make payments.

Debt Management. Credit counseling and debt management agencies, be it non-profit or for profit, work to help you learn to get control of your finance.

Through debt management, you are educated on how to make a budget and stick to it and often help you make a schedule to follow for paying off your debts.

If it is determined that credit counseling is not enough to help you get you out of debts, you will be recommended to enroll in a debt management program.

A debt management program, also known as debt management plan, restructures your multiple monthly payments into one monthly payment, and thus resulting in lowering the total monthly payment previously paid.

When a DMP is recommended, a certified credit counselor will be in charge of negotiating with your creditors to reduce interest rates, eliminate late fees and over-limit payments, and create a manageable repayment plan for you to follow.

A debt management plan is right for me, therefore I enrolled in a free debt management program available in my country last year. I have been in the program since October 2008.

Debt Settlement. Debt settlement is an approach to debt reduction in which the debt settlement company renegotiates the amount of debts you owe with your unsecured creditors and convince them to give up their demands for the full repayment of your debts and instead to accept a lesser amount.

See the difference between debt management and debt settlement clearly; debt management means paying a monthly payment while debt settlement means paying the whole amount up front.

In order for the debt settlement program to work, you have to have a large amount of money on hand for a one time sum. Inability to meet this requirement will probably end up with you getting calls from a collection agency and facing with even more debts.

Debt consolidation, debt management and debt settlement are often favorable debt relief options because they allow you to get out of debt faster without having to declare bankruptcy.

Are you tired of paying a pile of debts that just don’t seem to decrease as time goes by? If so, seek assistance from credit counseling service to help manage your debts or enroll in a debt management program to pay off your debts without stress.

Getting help from credit counseling service doesn’t mean that you must participate in a debt management program. You do not need a debt management plan if a credit counselor determines that you just need a little advice on budgeting and money management.

But if your unsecured debts including student loans, payday loans and credit card debts are out of control, then you need a qualified debt management program counselor to take time to go through your debt and income levels, discuss debt relief options for getting out of debt, and explain the pros and cons of a debt management program to you.

Beware of credit counseling agency that enrolls you in a debt management program automatically without providing assistance with budgeting and money management!

Once it is determined that a debt management plan is the right debt relief plan for your financial situation, the credit counselor will start negotiating and creating a payment schedule with each of your unsecured creditors in an attempt to lower the total amount of money owed, reduce your interest rates, and have all late fees and over-limit charges removed.

Make sure the monthly payment that the debt management counselor works out for you is an amount that you can afford; a debt management repayment which is higher than what you can afford each month is not going to help you make any progress.

Once it is determined that you are eligible for a debt management program, your credit counselor will negotiate with your creditors for lower payments and interest rates.

Instead of making multiple credit card payments to different banks and creditors on various due date, a debt repayment plan enables you to make ONE payment to One agency on ONE date.

You start making payment to the credit counseling agency’s collection account and the monthly payment will then be distributed out to your creditors.

Take the late payments or insufficient funds seriously! They can cause your debt management program to become null and void, so be in time or on time when it comes to making your monthly repayment.

While in the DMP, you can’t apply for any new credit cards or loans. I have been living without the convenience of a credit card for more than 7 months already.

I have been told by my counselor that I can make extra payments to some of the large credit card balances while I am in the program. Just make sure that I have some emergency funds before I go to settle a large credit card balance.

If your debt is up to your ears and you are looking for debt relief options to bring relief, a debt management program can be just what you need.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has very useful information about using debt management programs (DMPs) effectively and about how to know if the program is legitimate.

Okay, you’ve got debts piling up and you do not know what to do. Let me, a credit card debt woman who is now in a free debt management program, assure you that there are debt relief options such as debt management programs and debt settlement plans you can choose from to get out of debt without filing bankruptcy.

No one really wants to choose any of the debt relief options but things tend to have a habit of happening when you are least prepared.

It’s wise to get familiar with them and you do have the debt relief options without the need for bankruptcy if things get bad.

First let’s look at debt management. A debt management program is designed to take all your bills and restructure them into one low monthly payment.

You pay one monthly payment until it’s paid off. The debt repayment program prepared by a certified credit counselor usually lasts around between two to five years, depending on the size of your debts.

One drawback to this is you cannot apply for any new credit cards or get loans of any kind.

Next up is debt settlement. Debt settlement, also called debt negotiation, is a debt relief program where your creditors agree to reduce your debts in exchange for one lump sum; it’s a process of negotiation with your unsecured creditors to convince them to give up their demands for the full repayment of your debts and instead to accept a lesser amount.

There is one major difference between the debt management and debt settlement though. Debt management usually ends with your debts being paid and your credit is reestablished while debt settlement isn’t so forgiving and usually leaves your credit in shreds. Recovering from this may take a while.

Consumers who use debt settlement are those who are experiencing legitimate financial hardships, cannot afford to repay their debts through debt management plans offered by consumer credit counseling agencies and who also want to avoid filing bankruptcy.

If neither the debt management program nor the debt settlement plan is what you want, then you had better keep all your bills paid down ahead of time through self debt management.

If you’re in debt up to your ears then you’re probably trying to do something about it. There are many options but essentially it comes down to debt management programs versus debt settlement plans.

Although neither of the debt relief options is really something you want, it is sometimes necessary to have a better understanding of the two.

Debt Management Programs. Debt management programs essentially do what they say. The credit counseling and debt management agencies take all your bills, compile them into one lump sum, and then you make one monthly payment on that.

Sometimes however certain debt collectors will not want to work with debt management programs because it means they will get less money. Most prefer to work with major debt management groups.

During debt management usually you cannot apply for any credit cards or lines of credit with banks or credit card companies. This will last until the debt repayment program has been completed.

Debt Settlement Plans. Debt settlement is where the debt settlement companies take your money every month, but don’t make monthly payments to your creditors. Instead, they put it in a trust account, negotiate your debts with your creditors and then make a lump-sum payment when there’s enough in your account to pay a creditor in full.

Take note that debt settlement companies do not ask your creditors to stop all interest charges, late fees and over limit fees from accruing. This means while the negotiations with your creditors are ongoing, your bills will continue to grow!

If it’s so unfortunate that you’re sued and a judgment is brought against you, you’ll owe more money than before!

The process of a debt settlement can also damage your credit depending on the size of the debt. If you cannot make it usually you are turned over to a collection agency, or your goods are repossessed.

The one major difference between debt management programs and debt settlement plans is your credit. If you go with a debt management plan, your credit in most cases will be wiped clean and you can start rebuilding it. If you use a debt settlement plan however your credit will be badly damaged and you’ll have to start picking up the pieces and superglue them back together.

You usually won’t consider either of them unless you’re in financial trouble. Which, if that’s the case then you’re going to be paying attention to the differences between them. Just remember management equals monthly payment, settlement equals one big lump sum.

If neither of the debt relief options is really something you want to end up doing, then you should always try to keep your debts paid down to avoid having to resort to either a debt management program or a debt settlement plan.

Americans are $900 billion in credit card debt. Are you one of the Americans who is carrying too much debt, especially credit card debt and in need of debt free help?

How much debt is considered to be too much debt? To know if you are carrying too much debt, check out 4 signs here.

Sign No. 1. A High Debt-To-Income Ratio. To get the debt-to-income ratio, simply divide your monthly debt payments (excluding mortgage or rent) by your monthly income. According to many credit counselors, a debt-to-income ratio of 15% to 20% is a sign of debt trouble. If your debt-to-income ratio is higher, that means you already have too much debt.

Sign No. 2. No Savings. You have no savings at all after making minimum payments for your credit cards, home and car loan installments, and daily expenses. Many credit experts are of the opinion that while meeting your debt obligations, it’s important for you to save money in a 401(k) or other retirement account, an emergency fund or even a general savings account.

Sign No. 3. Over The Limit. If you are struggling to make minimum payments or pay down your credit card balances or constantly maxing out your credit card limits, then you are really in debt trouble.

Sign No. 4. Worrying About Debt Most Of The Time. If you are stressed out over paying bills and making minimum payments on your debt, it’s clear you have a problem. Or you feel suffocated by the card bills, warning notices from banks or haunting calls from your creditors, yes, your debt has reached an unmanageable level.

Are you really carrying too much debt, especially credit card debt? If so, you must start tackling your credit card debt trouble and getting out of debt using debt reduction tips available free.

Getting debt free help from credit counseling services is your next practical step if the minimum payments, finance charges and late payment fees become simply unbearable. Debt relief options such as debt consolidation loans, debt repayment plans, debt management programs or debt settlement plans are available to help you consolidate or restructure your multiple debt into one debt that allows you to make one lower payment every month.

Get debt free help now to eliminate your debt, especially credit card debt.

You are tired of your unmanageable credit card debts and the thought of filing bankruptcy keeps playing in your mind. You are not alone. I used to be suffocated by overdue credit card minimum payments, personal loan installments, and home loan and car loan payments until the thought of filing bankruptcy popped up all the time.

Listen. There are various credit card debt free options that you can consider before you think of filing bankruptcy. I used to think that filing bankruptcy was my only way out. Apparently, I was wrong.

There are debt relief options such as debt consolidation programs, debt management programs, debt settlement plans or credit counseling services that you can seek help from to avoid bankruptcy.

I am now under a debt management program that helps me restructure all my credit card and personal loan debts into one repayment plan.

I am relieved for the time being because there is only ONE small monthly payment to ONE agency on ONE date. I no longer need to be stressed out with multiple credit card monthly payments to various banks on different dates.

You can do debt management either directly by yourself, by a free debt management agency or by a hired third party. For me, I sought help from a free credit management agency.

The free credit management agency handled the negotiations with my creditors to allow me to repay my credit card and personal loan debts with a lower interest rate. All my credit card and personal loan debt are merged into a single lower monthly payment.

Through the debt management program, I make one monthly installment to the credit management agency and the agency is in charge of distributing the monthly installment evenly to my creditors.

Lower monthly repayment also means that it takes longer time to pay off my credit card debt, 5, 8 or 10 years. However, I can make full settlement on a credit card outstanding balance in future once I can afford to do so. This helps shorten the tenure of debt management program.

As I pay a small monthly payment under the debt management program, any extra cash I have I must manage it properly by saving it up as emergency funds for unexpected expenses such as separation, job loss, illness or business failure. The funds can also be used to pay off a credit card outstanding balance at one go to shorten the tenure of my debt management program.

If you find your credit card debts unmanageable but not ready for bankruptcy, go for a free debt management program, a debt consolidation program, a debt settlement plan or a credit counseling service.
