Reduce Meal Expenses From $20 To $10 A Day

BBQ Pork BunIt’s been more than a week since hubby and I started reducing our meal expenses from RM20 ($5.80) to RM10 a day.

It’s easy for me to control and track my meal expenses. However, I find it a bit difficult to keep track of hubby’s meal expenses.

He is not as willing as I am when it comes to tracking every dollar and cent spent on daily meals.

Instead of waiting for him to tell me how much he spends on his breakfast, lunch or dinner, I ask him his meal expenses when he is seen to be relaxed on the bed.

February 14:

Breakfast – Bun RM0.80
Lunch – A Pack of Mixed Rice RM4.00
Dinner – Buns RM4.40

February 15:

Breakfast – Bun RM0.70
Lunch – 2 Plates of Mixed Rice RM5.40
Dinner – 2 Bowls of Noodles RM4.40, Hot Tea RM0.90

February 16:

Breakfast – Noodles RM2.20
Lunch – 2 Plates of Mixed Rice RM5.40
Dinner – Buns RM2.60, Coffee RM1.40
Supper – Snacks & Drinks RM8.00 (Hubby and his buddies)

February 17:

Breakfast – 2 Plates of Noodles RM5.00, Fried Noodles RM1.20, Hot Tea RM1.40
Dinner – 2 Bowls of Noodles RM4.40, Hot Tea RM0.90

February 18:

Breakfast – Biscuits
Lunch – Kenny Rogers Roasters RM41.00 (I am still mad! Hubby gave his cousin brother an expensive treat this afternoon. Couldn’t he opt for KFC, Kopitiam or McDonald that costs less than RM20.00 for two persons?)

February 19:

Breakfast – Chicken Rice RM3.50, Iced Coffee RM1.50
Dinner – 2 Bowls of Noodles RM4.40, Hot Tea RM0.90

February 20:

Lunch – 2 Packs of Mixed Rice RM7.00
Dinner – A Pack of Noodles RM2.80

February 21:

Lunch – 2 Bowls of Noodles RM4.40, Hot Tea RM0.90
Dinner – 2 Buns RM2.20

February 22:

Breakfast – A Bowl of Noodles RM2.50, Fried Noodles RM1.70, Hot Tea RM0.90
Lunch – Nasi Lemak RM2.00, Snack RM1.00
Dinner – 2 Bowls of Noodles RM4.40, Hot Tea RM0.90

Hubby still takes 3 meals while I am used to 2 meals a day.

It’s funny. Since I cut down from 3 meals to 2 meals a day, my appetite seems to become smaller. A cup of tea and some biscuits or a cup of coffee and a BBQ pork bun can easily fill up my stomach.

I have even turned to making my own coffee or tea at home now. Instead of purchasing the RM1.50 per pack of iced coffee or tea, the homemade tea or coffee costs RM0.50 per cup only.
