Don’t You Even Have A Credit Card?
The other night, hubby and I had dinner with a few long lost friends. As we weren’t close to them, they didn’t know that hubby and I were placed in free debt management programs to help us get rid of credit card debts without stress.
They looked surprised when they found out that hubby and I didn’t have any credit card. To be honest, I was quite offended by one of them who gave hubby and me a lecture!
I could still remember what he said that day while showing off his Platinum Visa card. It went like this,
“How could you guys not get even a credit card? It’s so easy to get credit cards these days. People like my colleagues who have bad credit history can also get credit cards.
Having credit cards is a privilege; it allows you who qualifies to make purchase on thing that you may not be able to buy with cash and then pay it off in smaller payments.
When you are in need of a small amount of money urgently, a credit card provides you the cash advance with just a few clicks at the ATM.”
Of course hubby and I knew the convenience of using credit cards. Unfortunately due to our careless spending, we soon found ourselves deeply in a deep debt hole.
By the time we wanted to get rid of our credit card debts, it’s too late. Even after we tried to implement DIY debt management in 2007, we didn’t see much decrease in the total debt.
In 2008, we decided to enroll in free debt management programs to help us get out of debt without stress.
Being in debt management plans means that we must give up all our credit cards. Hubby and I were more than ready to cut up all our credit cards at that time.
It’s undeniable that credit cards are good. If you are good at budgeting and able to pay the money off quickly, they are convenient medium of making purchases and paying off debts.
But if you are like hubby and I who couldn’t keep our spending under control, you had better live without a credit card.
